An observant criminal investigator with the Bay County Sheriff’s Office spotted a man wanted on five warrants while driving through Southport yesterday. The investigator conducted an investigative traffic stop which resulted in three arrests and the confiscation of multiple illegal narcotics and a stolen firearm.

On February 5, 2018, Inv. Brent Roberts saw Mario James Bertucci, a man he had arrested before and knew currently had five active warrants for Failure to Appear in court on the original charges placed on him by Inv. Roberts. Bertucci was sitting on the center console of a vehicle driven by Crystal Rose. Rachel Miller was the passenger in the vehicle.

After stopping the vehicle, Inv.  Roberts approached, detected the strong odor of marijuana, and made contact with Rose, the driver. When he asked Bertucci for identification, Bertucci gave him a false name and birth date. Inv. Roberts verified it was Bertucci and placed him under arrest.

Rose could provide no vehicle registration papers.

The vehicle was searched prior to towing and inside was found over a pound of marijuana, cocaine, a grapefruit-sized ball of methamphetamine (about 300 grams), and drug paraphernalia. A search, with consent, was done of a purse belonging to Crystal Rose. Inside was found an amount of methamphetamine inside an L&M cigarette case, and a firearm stolen in 2017. Bertucci, age 32, of Chipley,  was charged with Petit Theft of the stolen tag, False ID Given to LEO, Trafficking in Methamphetamine (more than 200 grams), Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, and Manufacture of Drug Paraphernalia.
