Track Athlete Arrested On Bozeman Campus With Weapons

The Bay County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Freeport student this morning at Bozeman School for having weapons on campus. The student was at Bozeman for a track meet today, February 23, 2018.

Administration at Freeport High School contacted their track team coach this morning after being made aware of a picture posted on Snapchat by one of the team members. The post was such that it caused other students to feel threatened, and administrators to believe the student might have a firearm with him on the campus of Bozeman.

The Freeport coach contacted the BCSO School Resource Deputy (SRD) who made contact with the student.  Daniel Solis, age 16, admitted to putting the picture and message on Snapchat, but stated he did not intend to hurt anyone, and that the firearm in the picture was just a BB gun. Solis also told the SRD he did have two knives with him in a backpack on the bus.

The SRD found two knives in Solis’ backpack, a large hunting knife and a golden colored switchblade. Solis claimed it was his hunting backpack and he brought it by mistake.

Solis was arrested and charged with two felony counts of Possessing a Weapon on School Property.
