3 Arrested In Home Invasion and Sexual Battery Case

The Bay County Sheriff’s Office announced today the arrest of three suspects in a Home Invasion and Sexual Battery case.

On January 7, 2012, deputies responded to a local hospital in reference to a home invasion robbery. The victim was suffering from several lacerations, abrasions and bruises and stated to deputies he had been sleeping in his home when he heard a knock at the door. The victim, recognizing the white male standing outside as an acquaintance named Jimmy Boyd, opened the front door. When he did, two black males wearing hoodies and masks, along with Boyd, entered the home. Each of the black men held handguns.

The men demanded money and when the victim denied having any cash in the home, one of the black males pistol whipped him causing lacerations and abrasions on his head that would later require stitches. The other black male went further into the home and found the woman sleeping in the home. According to the female victim, he initially held the gun to her head and then sexually battered her with the gun.

Once they realized there was no cash in the home, the two black males took a flat screen TV and an X-Box. All three men left the home at that time.

Investigators with the Criminal Investigations Division conducted interviews with the victims and other residents of the home on Terrell Street. From these interviews they identified Jimmy Edward Boyd, DOB 3/26/84, of 1722 W. 17th Street, as the white male the victim recognized. Further investigation revealed that Boyd had a family member that lived on Fettinger Road in Fountain and investigators found Boyd at that home and took him into custody.

During interviews, Boyd initially told investigators he was forced by the two black males to take them to the home on Terrell Street because it was rumored the victims had cash in the home. Boyd then changed his story and admitted he was intoxicated at the time and did want to get his share of the cash from the robbery so he took the men to the home. Boyd gave investigators the name of one of the black men as Cruz Tranum Griggs, DOB 10-1-89, of 1722 West 17th Street.

On January 10, 2012, contact was made with Griggs who gave consent to search his residence. Inside the home investigators found the flat screen television with the same serial number as the one stolen from the victim. Griggs stated to investigators he was involved in the robbery and took the television because there was no money in the home. He also identified the other black male as “T”. Griggs and Boyd were arrested on January 10 and charged with Home Invasion Robbery.

Subsequent investigation revealed “T” was Tony McCloud, DOB 5/29/93, of 3702 West 21st Place in Panama City. Contact was made with McCloud and he was brought in for interviews on January 11 at approximately 2 am.

After interviews with the victims and suspects, investigators believe Griggs pistol whipped the male victim and that McCloud committed the sexual battery. McCloud was arrested and charged with Home Invasion Robbery and Sexual Battery.
