The Financial Crimes Unit of the Bay County Sheriff’s Office and the Panama City Beach Police Department recently concluded a joint investigation which resulted in the arrest of a Fountain man.

The PCBPD received a complaint stating someone had tried to open a credit card account in the victim’s name at a discount store on Panama City Beach. Subsequent investigation revealed several attempts had also been made to open credit accounts using other victims personal identities at a discount store in Panama City. The BCSO Financial Crimes Unit began working with the PCBPD on the case and learned that Jack Barton, Jr., had worked at both stores during the times the accounts were opened. This happened between October 1, 2017, and February 7, 2018 and involved multiple victims from throughout the country.

Contact was made with Jack Barton, Jr.,  age 30, of 21119 Hightower Road, Fountain, and he was interviewed. He was then charged with four counts of Criminal Use of Personal Identification Information, also known as identity theft, and taken to the Bay County Jail.
