Traffic Stop Yields Drugs And Firearms


On Thursday, September 22, 2016, Deputy Anita Ward stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on HWY 77 in Southport. During the traffic investigation the driver Paul Shannon Rhodes gave Deputy Ward permission to search the vehicle.

During the search Deputy Ward found a gray colored bag that contained plastic baggies containing methamphetamine. In the other baggies were blue colored pills that were identified as Oxycodone. There were also empty bags that could be used to distribute the drugs.

A further search of the gray bag found two small bottles of liquid that were tested. The results of the tests gave a positive reaction for Fentanyl. Also in the bag, straws and needles were discovered as well as $730.00 dollars in cash.

During the search three handguns were located, one in the gray bag, one in the center console and one wedged between the console and drivers seat. Mr. Rhodes does not have a concealed carry permit and all the weapons were fully loaded and easily accessible.

Paul Shannon Rhodes ( DOB 12/22/1976) was arrested and charged with the following charges:

Possession with intent to distribute Oxycodone

Possession of Fentanyl

Possession of Methamphetamine

Possession of drug paraphernalia

Carrying Concealed Firearms.
