The Bay County Sheriff’s Office announced today the arrest of a registered sexual offender, John Lee Hutcheson, on charges of Carjacking, Theft, Battery, and False Imprisonment.

At about 11:30 this morning, deputies received a call reporting a carjacking at the intersection of East Avenue and East 8th Street in Panama City.

Deputies arrived and spoke with the victim who stated she had been with Hutcheson at a home in Southport when he began choking her. She lost consciousness. After that, the victim and Hutcheson left the residence in her vehicle, ultimately traveling down East Avenue. Hutcheson began making statements that made her uneasy. Hutcheson allegedly told her that her vehicle now belonged to him, and if she wanted to see her kids again that she would remain quiet. During the course of this conversation, Hutcheson also took the victim’s cellular phone from her. At some point, Hutcheson braked and stopped the vehicle, and the victim was able to get out. Hutcheson left the area. A witness to the incident verified seeing the victim jump out of the vehicle and that the vehicle then took off.

During the course of the investigation, BCSO Inv. Aubrey Chance located Hutcheson and the vehicle in the 100 block of Claire Avenue, Panama City. Hutcheson was taken into custody without incident.

John Lee Hutcheson, W/M, age 33, of 6518 Keiber Circle, Youngstown, was booked into the Bay County Jail. It was discovered that Hutcheson had an outstanding warrant for Stalking from the Springfield Police Department. That warrant was served on him upon his arrival at the jail.
